Ekalavya Model Residential School (EMR School), Hirli, Nawrangpur is one of the premiere schools in the district which started functioning with effect from 5th September 2001 to fulfill the educational needs of the tribal students of this area. Ekalavya Model Residential Schools have been established in Odisha, as per provisions under Article 275 (I) of the constitution of India. The number of residential schools for each state has been allotted in proportion to the tribal population of the state. As such there are as many as 13 EMR Schools in Odisha. This school is situated beneath the hillock, Hirli Dangiri at a distance of 3 Kms from the district head quarter and 560 kms from the state capital, Bhubaneswar. It has 30 acres of land of its own with boundary wall around the entire plot. The school ground floor building consists of 8 classrooms, one principal’s office, one teachers’ common room, one library, 5 laboratories, one office room and 4 toilets for boys and 4 toilets for girls. The first floor of the exact model is under construction.

This school provides teaching from Class VI to XII(CBSE Curriculum) with double section. The sanctioned strength of students in each class being 60 with equal division of 30 boys and 30 girls, the total strength of the school is 420. There are two separate hostels inside the campus to accommodate 210 boys and 210 girls. Besides, there are 20 staff quarters including Principal’s quarter with proper amenities.
